Baggins Birthday Party
Bilbo removes the Ring of Power after his big party
Thain's Book records the last birthday party of Bilbo Baggins held in the Shire.
On September 22, 3001, Bilbo threw a party of special magnificence in honor of his eleventy-first - or 111th - birthday. It was also the thirty-third birthday of Bilbo's heir Frodo Baggins, who came of age that year. Bilbo's Magic 'Exit-Stage-Left' Trick was closely followed by Frodo, who disappeared at the Inn of The Prancing Pony!
Editor note: Thane is an inherited title of the leader of the Took clan of hobbits, adapted from the Old English thegn, a title for a noble who served an earl. September is translated as Halimath in Hobbit-English; halig-monath, means "holy-month" in Old English.
Tolkien paints a picture of the average Hobbit resident of the Shire as a member of the Middle-earth collective of natural farmers who love home, garden, and an otherwise uneventful existence. Generally, a Hobbit will tend to a slight squareness of build that ergonomically adds to the knowledge of out-of-door matters* productive of glorious summer bounty. Bilbo's Birthday party, the great celebration held at Hobbiton on 22 September III 3001, in honour of Frodo's 33rd birthday and, especially, Bilbo's 111th, marked the turn of events that would lead to the close of the Third Age. Preparations for Bilbo's special celebration began early in the day, in anticipation of everyone in the Shire expected to attend.
Bilbo is finally ready to begin his
journal, The Red Book of Westmarch when Gandalf arrives in Hobbiton. The wizard is greeted at the door by his friend Bilbo Baggins for tea and catch up.
After the party that night, Bilbo departs the Shire with plans to live with the elves and write his book. Before leaving, Bilbo passes on the Ring of Power, his property in Hobbiton, especially Bag-end, to Frodo. Later, at the Council of Lord Elrond, in Rivendell, Bilbo would also give his heir a mithril shirt and his trusty sword Sting.

Ian Holm is an Academy Award-nominated British film and stage actor who was a star of the Royal Shakespeare Company. He is a well-balanced performer with a full spectrum of characters to his credit in over 100 productions.
His on screen chemistry reveals a combination of artistic talent, creative power, and capacity for great emotion with good judgment. Ian Holm always brings great energy, great determination, uncompromising devotion to ideals, and a compelling charisma to any part he plays on the big and little screen. My favorite Holm list begins with Bilbo Baggins, Polonius [Hamlet], Professor Fitz [The Aviator], and Priest Vito Cornelius, in The Fifth Element.
His portrait will suggest to the observant character analyst that Holm is a public speaker with considerable courage and dramatic talent. [Note the shape of his chin and the distance between the edge of his chin to the top of his head. Also regard a high, wide forehead, that is often an indication of a sense of justice.]

Note: When the cast and crew were packed and ready to leave New Zealand from
The Lord of the Rings set, Director Peter Jackson gave Elijah Wood two gifts; one of the One Rings they used and Sting, Frodo's sword.
Elijah Wood has his Mercury [the way he thinks] in Aquarius** in conjunction with his Mars in Aquarius
[orb approximately +3°00'] and his Mars trine Pluto.
Elijah Wood and Sean Astin - both have Mercury in Aquarius - represent the Hobbit 'emotional soul' of the Shire, in all its various departments, physical, mental, and moral. Wood has his Mercury conjunct Mars and Astin has his Mercury conjunct his Sun and North Node, so together they are a perfect team to protect and safeguard the Shire. The intelligence of the heart, the innate, functional consciousness, or way of thinking, is in harmony with nature, especially during summer, the glorious 'sun time' of year, the season most suited to the Shire.
"Mithril!*** All folk desired it. It could be beaten like copper, and polished like glass; and the Dwarves could make of it a metal, light and yet harder than tempered steel. Its beauty was like to that of common silver, but the beauty of mithril did not tarnish or grow dim."

A famous variety of pipe-weed grown in the Southfarthing of the Shire, and apparently originating in the district around Longbottom. The 'star' of its name presumably refers to the star-shaped flowers of the pipe-weed plant.

"There was one picture in particular which bothered him. It had begun with a leaf caught in the wind, and it became a tree; and the tree grew, sending out innumerable branches, and thrusting out the most fantastic roots. Strange birds came and settled on the twigs and had to be attended to. Then all round the Tree, and behind it, through the gaps in the leaves and boughs, a country began to open out; and there were glimpses of a forest marching over the land, and of mountains tipped with snow."

The Tarot Trump
THE LORD OF THE RINGS and THE FIFTH ELEMENT
Tarot Trump IV suggested as the Shire atmosphere, and Baggins residence, embodies the spirit of Akasha, or Spirit, as a Diva, an unique residential sovereign. There is an associated view that the Diva of the house is often classified as a household god or goddess, and the spirit of the Baggins clan. The
IV Emperor archetype is a condensation of the natural, high subtle form of Spirit as an element.
Film references with the idea of Spirit as the standard of Zeus in, Clash of the Titans, The Agony and the Ecstasy [Creator and Adam on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel], and Inherit The Wind are good for research.
However - had Matthew Harrison Brady any knowledge of the Holy Qabalah, he could have put Henry Drummond in his place by asking for the origin of Adam Kadmon.
The Trump IV archetypal theme is very basic, as a patriarch. Bilbo Baggins, the Ringfinder, establishes clan destiny by discovering the means to destroy the Dark Lord's campaign to triumph over the free beings of Middle-earth. He may not understand all the implications of his little treasure, but he intuitively knows the power of the one ring is far beyond his capacity to manage.
In the movie, The Fifth Element, Bilbo [Ian Holm] is transformed into a priest. Vito Cornelius is the keeper of the keys. His life has been spent in a study of the divine language and the calendar, both with the same vigilance as Bilbo Baggins. Cornelius also conjures a hefty feast for his unexpected guest in the same way Baggins prepared a delightful table for the Wizard Gandalf the Gray. Trump IV rules the lower furnace in physical anatomy.
Cornelius provides the superbeing visitor with a visual electronic language and historic guide pertaining to chronological cultural progress in a century by century format. This is not unlike the well read journals of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins that have been the basis for the works of Tolkien.
EXERCISE: Draw similarities between the two stories and the character development. The story begins by establishing basic Trump IV relationships, environment, and strong characteristics.
Find links between Bilbo Baggins and Vito Cornelius in keeping with Trump IV. Email them with Tolkien references based on the language of the elves.
The negative side of the coin is, of course, the pseudo-spirit mode summoned by Saruman for use in his foul art - the perversion of the Potter myth by Saruman, opening doors to other dimensions without proper safeguards, and the infusion of sub-death consciousness into his army. This may be compared with the Gary Oldman (Immanual Zorg), character in The Fifth Element.
Link the elevated version of the Trump IV archetype, personified as Aragorn, King of the Reunited Kingdom, and the hero of The Fifth Element, Korben Dallis [Bruce Willis] currently a 'freelance ranger' though a former military hero and leader with a past record of distinguished service.
Tolkien's, The Lord of The Rings, provides savior-savioress scenes based on spiritual relationships that rely on the fifth element. Without Akasha? The Elf-queen Galadriel would seem a terrestrial empress, Eowyn could never defeat the Witch-king on the field of battle, and Aragorn would never be successful in his challenge of the Dark Lord at the Black Gate. Each installment of Tolkien's story illuminates the deeper characters of the unique inhabitants created for the world of Middle-earth. A core sense of individuality, integrity, and steadfastness defines the best strengths of the elves, dwarves, hobbits, wizards, and mortals. The essential savior-rescuer oath sworn by the Fellowship of the Ring implies a sub-text that sustains the nine walkers with many unspoken vows.

BACK Cornucopia Colour Me Inn
Conventional berry tarts are made by baking a shell of cookie dough and, when it is cold, filling it with custard, arranging berries on top, and finishing it with a glaze. However, it is easier, faster, and less caloric to make this similar recipe without the dough.
The custard is spooned into individual soufflé molds or small glass bowls and topped with berries glazed with seedless raspberry jam. Any small molds with about a 1/2-cup capacity that are pretty enough to serve in the dining room will work here.
No Bake Strawberry Pie
2 pints of fresh strawberries [1 1/2 pounds]
or 2 8 oz. pks frozen strawberries, drained
1 pkg strawberry glaze mix (in fruit dept.)
1 small blend of whip cream or crèam fraîche
1 ready made butter or graham cracker crust
Put strawberries in a medium bowl; first wash and cut fresh strawberries.
Mix strawberries (drain all juice from frozen strawberries) with glaze or sugar to taste. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and set aside for about 1 hour. When ready to serve, fill crust with strawberries and cover with whip cream or crèam fraiche.
Concerning Berry Sauces
Strawberries are wild berries found by Bilbo in the upper Vales of Anduin, as he journeyed eastward on the Quest of Erebor. Nearly anything tastes better with a little fruit sauce poured over the top. Pancakes and waffles take on a fresh flavor, plain fruits become a delectable treat, and it adds personality to your tea tray if wizards [or divine beings] visit unexpectedly!

Fight Fire With Fire
Gandalf, as ring-bearer, is linked directly with The Imperishable Fire. This is the source of all life. It was with the Imperishable Fire that Iluvatar created the Ainur. Melkor searched for it for a long time, but found it not, because Iluvatar kept it with him. When he created Arda, Iluvatar set the Fire at it's heart. Another name for the Imperishable Fire is The Secret Fire (The Lord of the Rings page 348):
"I [Gandalf] am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the flame of Anor."
The Balrog and The Flame of Udun referred to by Gandalf in the Mines of Moria:
the references to The Flame of Udun are uncertain. It is believed by some to be the flame at the heart of Orodruin, where the Ring of Power was cut from Sauron's hand. The clearest reference to the infernal nature of corrupted flame is spoken by Gandalf in his challenge to block the ancient Balrog on the bridge of Khazad-dûm (The Lord of the Rings page 348):
"The dark fire will not avail you, flame of Udun. Go back to the Shadow! You cannot pass."
The battle between elemental expressions are as old as time itself. Those masters of the flame in its various manifestations will, at some time, confront each other. Saruman did not personally stand before Gandalf on the Bridge of Khazad-dûm. But he was instrumental in
diverting the Company of the Ring, away from their pathway over Redhorn Pass, into the lair of the corrupt monster of Moria - a Balrog of Morgoth. Until Gandalf and the Fellowship arrived, the Balrog could not be bested, and Khazad-dûm remained a citadel of darkness.
Read more: Joseph Campbell began to popularize the idea of comparative mythology — the study of the human impulse to create stories and images that, though they are clothed in the motifs of a particular time and place, draw nonetheless on universal, eternal themes. Heroes were important to Campbell because, to him, they conveyed universal truths about one's personal self-discovery and self-transcendence, one's role in society, and the relation between the two.
Campbell asserted: Wherever the poetry of myth is interpreted as biography, history, or science, it is killed. The living images become only remote facts of a distant time or sky. Furthermore, it is never difficult to demonstrate that as science and history mythology is absurd. When a civilization begins to reinterpret its mythology in this way, the life goes out of it, temples become museums, and the link between the two perspectives becomes dissolved.
The one-metre- (3ft) tall species - dubbed
"the Hobbit" - lived on Flores Island until at least 12,000 years ago...
"There have always been myths about small people - Ireland has its Leprechauns and Australia has the Yowies. I suppose there's some feeling that this is an oral history going back to the survival of these small people into recent times," said co-discoverer Peter Brown, an associate professor of archaeology at New England.

* Traditions hold training for commercial, industrial or agricultural careers should place emphasis on usefulness, rather than show: study the life and achievement of any great man of genius. His genius has consisted principally in his wonderful capacity to labor for perfection in the most minute detail. And yet most ambitious misfits are unwilling to work hard. Their products always show lack of finish due to methods, unwillingness to spend time, to take pains to bring what they do up to a standard of beautiful perfection, so far as perfection is humanly possible. The Hobbit is perfectly productive within the Shire environment. The love of nature and love of beauty blend with intellectual gifts that maintain order, method, and system. The extent of insulation from the outside world is appropriate.

The Fellowship in the Mines of Moria
Passing through the underground world of the Dwarves, Gimli refers to a mithril shirt as a gift worthy of a king. Gandalf tells about Bilbo's acquisition of the mithril coat, saying, "I never told him, but its worth was greater than the value of the whole Shire and everything in it."
