Omphalos J. E. Cirlot says, To quote Pausanias: "What the inhabitants of Delphi call omphalos is made of white stone and is considered to be at the center of the earth", and Pindar, in one of his odes, confirms this opinion. It is then one of the many symbols of the cosmic 'Centre' where intercommunication between the three worlds of man, of the dead, and of the gods, is effected. W. H. Roscher (according to Rene Guenon) collected a number of documents in a work entitled Omphalos (1913) which prove that this symbol was in existence among the most diverse of races. By locating it in one particular spot, man made of it a sacred zone around the 'centre of the world'. The material image of the Omphalos (the 'navel' in Greek) was known as the Bethel, which was made of stone and shaped like a pilaster. It has been suggested that the menhir may have had a similar significance. Another image of the omphalos may have been the ovoid stone as it sometimes appears in Greek designs encircled by a snake or serpent. In all these images we can descry the attempt to express the sexual principles of the cosmos: the pilaster is related to the masculine and active factor, the Egg of the World is connected with the feminine principle, and the egg encircled by the serpent suggests the synthesis of both principles in the lingam. More abstract and therefore spiritually superior ways of depicting this 'Centre' (at once cosmic, temporal and spatial, physical and metaphysical) are found in China: the hole in the middle of the disk of jade known as Pi, for instance, where the center is identified as the non-being of the mystic Nothingness or the quadrangular pyramid rising up in the center of each feudal domain where each face of the pyramid corresponds to one of the cardinal points and the summit represents the center. These pyramids were also known in Ireland, according to J. Loth in his Brehon Laws.

Arwen's Garden and her list for tree, plant, and flower allocation. Special altars dedicated to the ancient triad Leto, Apollo, and Diana were established at Delphi, Delos and other sanctuary sites. Leto (Roman Latona), an early wife of Zeus [prior to meeting Hera], and mother of Apollo and Diana, personified a powerful silence, unobtrusive, chaste, kindly, ready to help and tend, and subordinating herself to her children. Leto is often shown in a garden with woodland creatures. Apollo, god of the sun, was a devoted son and a bright companion, which one would expect in a gifted poet and wise prophet. Diana, goddess of the moon, was beautiful and graceful as the secrets of Nature, mighty mysteries of life.
Mushrooms are mentioned in association with the Mystery Drama prevalent in the Golden Age, and generally throughout ancient legend. Suggestion from the Film Dept. would include: Altered States, The Lord of the Rings, the

Poppy, the poppy - goddesses: Circe, Kore, Persephone, and Perserpina link with the seeds of this flower, regarded as soporific. This referred to the goddess's annual stay (sleep) in the Underworld, and eventual reawakening above the surface to introduce Spring again. Some interpret the poppy as a common companion of Morpheus, the god of sleep/dreaming, but the flower stands for fertility since the flower produces numerous seeds. also known as, 'Rose of Provins' and 'The Red Rose of Lancaster,' cultivated for many centuries as an herbal remedy and for making rosewater. Also, the choice of wine in the ancient world was often 'Rose Wine,' served as part of a ritual, formal, or elaborate meal. The flower is a light crimson semi-double and unlike most other roses, the petals intensify in perfume when dried.
Most Gallicas have a heady and intense perfume but Belle Isis has the Venusian 'myrrh' perfume that is also found in Constance Spry and many other of the David Austin roses.
The Romans bathed in rose perfumed waters and drank rose wine. Romans built fountains everywhere so they could continually enjoy the scent of fresh red roses. Clear scented water and fragrant clear bath found at Receptive Places: Shrine and Fountain.

Themis - A daughter of Uranos and Gaea, she was the personification of that divine law of right which ought to control all human affairs, of that highest and noblest sense of right which is subject to no human influences. She was also viewed as the goddess of the rights of hospitality. She gave the power of prophecy to Apollo, having held the post at Delphi before him. Zeus wooed her for a long time before she consented to become his wife, and to him she bore the Horae, Moerae and Astraea, the goddess of justice.
Because of her great integrity and sense of justice, all the gods consulted Themis when seeking advice. Even Zeus sought her counsel, being warned by her that he should not marry Thetis, as the son who would spring from the marriage would grow up to overthrow his father. Taking her advice, Zeus gave Thetis to the mortal Peleus as his wife.
Themis was represented as a woman of mature age, with large, open eyes, holding a sword and chain in one hand, with a balance in the other, to indicate the severity and the accuracy with which justice is to be meted out and administered.
Thetis - One of the Nereides, and perhaps the most famous, Thetis was to be married to Zeus, but at the warning of Themis that their son would rise to overthrow his father, Zeus relinquished his wish, giving instead the nymph in marriage to Peleus, and from their union sprang the famous Greek hero Achilles.
