It began with the forging
of the great rings.

Three were given to the Elves:
Immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings.

The Bearers of the Elven Rings:
Gil-galad, the King; Cirdan, of the Grey Havens;
and Galadriel, the Lady of the Golden Wood.

Nenya, the Ring of Galadriel,
wrought of mithril with a white stone

Gil-galad's ring, Vilya
gold with a blue stone, passed to his herald, Elrond.

And Cirdan gifted his ring, Narya
with a stone red as fire, Gandalf.

"It is well known and accepted that all Egyptian art and architecture was set out upon a grid of squares [our graph paper is an equivalent] which allowed the precise determination of proportions and scale, matters never left to the whim of the artist."      -Anthony West

Is the religious grid based on an earlier status of men and women when all men were the same height, weight, and proportion? And in the same time frame all women had exactly the same measurements? Some think the original masculine and feminine models closely resemble traditional Indian gods and goddesses, found in ancient temples throughout India. Tolkien seemed to describe the elves surrounded by gossamer 'brow' light characteristics, so the internal environment of Lothlorien and Rivendell remained free of all obstruction. Even the garden is composed of precisely matched natural tones, and detailed images of swans, statuary and geometric design.

ASFALOTH
Asfaloth is Arwen's courageous carrier in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. Originally he was the horse of Glorfindel. When Frodo is wounded by the poison blade of the Witch-king, during an ambush on Weathertop, he is near death. Arwen helps Strider/Aragorn save the Hobbit's life by outracing the Riders in Black to the Ford of Rivendell. Asfaloth may be a relative of Shadowfax.

Arwen instructs Asfaloth how to elude the Nazgul, suggesting he is familiar with enchantment and spells for protection of horse and rider. The power of the elves is deftly demonstrated as Arwen outclasses the Riders in Black at the ford of the River Bruinen.

The elves have mastered a universal language so they are in command of many forces in nature. The way of communication also seems to reach animals at an emotional level, as we learn from Aragorn in, Return of The King. Aragorn impresses even the Rohirrim Horse-lords of Rohan; Eowyn watches him still a grief-stricken horse that once belonged to the son of King Theoden. [go The Prancing Pony]

Galadriel is The Lady of the Galadhrim, The Silvan Elves of Lórien
After the loss of Amroth, the rulership of Lórien was taken up by Celeborn and Galadriel, and their 'tree-people.'

ALQUALONDE The Haven of the Swans
The Swanhaven took its name from the Elvish preference for carving their ships in the shapes of great swans. There could be a connection with the constellation Cygnus, The Swan, a favorite of celestial navigators around the globe. See Galadriel - Lothlorien for information about this star pattern, one of the few mentioned by name in Tolkien's notes.
Alqualonde has a name equivalent of 3 in numerology, that of The Empress Tarot Trump. The Goddesses of this vibration are all mothers.

Note: In the Hindu system, Brahma is depicted as carrying a rosary in the upper right hand, a book in the upper left hand, a kamandalu (water pot) in the lower left hand and bestows grace with his lower right hand. He is seen sitting on a swan or standing on a lotus. His consort Saraswati is typically shown seated on a lotus. Like the swan, the lotus seat of the goddess suggests her transcendence of the physical world. She floats above the muddy imperfections of the physical world, unsullied, pure, beautiful. Although rooted in the mud (like man rooted in the physical world), the lotus perfects itself in a blossom that has transcended the mud. She inspires people to live so they may transcend their physical limitations through the ongoing creation of culture. On her special day in spring, Vasant Panchmi, Goddess Saraswati is worshipped by school children as the patron goddess of learning.

The Bow of Galadriel Galadriel's gift to Legolas.
Along with his Lothlorien bow he received a quiver of golden arrows - the design on the quiver an elegant peacock, one of the birds that nest in Lothlorien and Rivendell. The Bow of Galadriel was described as being longer than those of Mirkwood, the home of Legolas, and strung with Elf-hair.

Gifts to The Fellowship of the Ring: Brooches and Elven-cloaks
The brooches went with the grey-green cloaks given to the Company of the Ring. They were described as being like a newly opened beech leaf. This is the first time Elves shared the secret of their 'hiding cape' with anyone outside their community.

The Phial of Galadriel

Her gift to Frodo was the Star-glass, a crystal phial that contained the captured light of the Star of Eärendil. Without that phial, Frodo and Sam would have been lost in Shelob's Lair, and the Quest of Mount Doom would have been a failure. It seems that Galadriel foresaw these events and planned for them, presumably through her Mirror.

"And you, Ring-bearer," she said, turning to Frodo. "I come to you last who are not last in my thoughts. For you I have prepared this." She held up a small crystal phial" it glittered as she moved it and rays of white light sprang from her hand. "In this phial," she said, "is caught the light of Earendil's star, set amid the waters of my fountain. It will shine still brighter when night is about you. May it be a light to you in dark places, when all other lights go out."

More information: 'Second Breakfast' - 'The House of Lord Elrond - Rivendell' - and Strider in the Wild for more about the Shards of Elendil's ancient sword Narsil.
The sword was broken in Elendil's fall at the Siege of Barad-dûr. The shards came to Rivendell [Imladris] and Lord Elrond kept them with other treasures of the House of Isildur.
The Battle at Helm's Deep: Aragorn as Théoden calls for the final charge.

'Narsil is a name composed of 2 basic stems without variation or adjuncts: VNAR 'fire', & VTHIL 'white light'. It thus symbolised the chief heavenly lights, as enemies of darkness, Sun (Anar) and Moon (in Q) Isil.'
