THEN:
More than 400 performers - musicians, singers, actors, poets, puppeteers, jugglers, mimes, magicians, theatrical groups et al – have donated their talents and time to entertain the hundreds of institutionalized people in convalescent homes, nutrition sites, hospitals, children’s wards, day care centers, correctional facilities, drug rehabilitation centers and psychiatric facilities. -Mimi Farina 1976
NOW:
Bread & Roses is special to me. I’ve been a friend and partner in its work for years, and on numerous occasions have experienced the healing that takes place when performer and audience meet heart-to-heart.
Year after year, Bread & Roses produces free, live performances for institutionalized people in eight Bay Area counties. This work is made possible through the generosity of 1,200 volunteer performers and donations from people like you. This past year, for example, Bread & Roses brought more than 500 high-quality shows to elderly adults, disabled children, homeless families, and many others who live in isolated circumstances. -Bonnie Raitt November 2001 *

A. Persons of all faiths, who have a concern for others and who wish to
become involved in aa friendly, dependable, cooperative way in the teamwork of
regular visiting, may become HEARTWARMERS, working under the supervision of a
Coordinator.
Q. What does a Visitor do?
A. The Visitor receives names of patients in a designated Convalescent

Q. How did the HEARTWARMERS Visitation Agency come into being?
A. After extensive research and exploratory interviews by the Executive
Chaplain, it was established as a division of The Foundation for Humanity, Inc.
by action of its Board of Directors, to meet the needs of the sick, afflicted
and aged residing in Convalescent Hospitals.
Q. Do the HEARTWARMERS work in close harmony and cooperation with other
community organizations and groups who do calling on shut-ins?
A. Yes, indeed, there is the closest possible cooperation between the HEARTWARMERS Visitation Agency and (1) Friendly Visiting Service, (2) Volunteers Bureau of San Mateo and (3) R.S.V.P. Each of these has its distinctive objective. We will be happy to answer any questions as to how we work with them.
The HEARTWARMERS Visitation Agency is the only non-medical organization in the country exclusively serving the social-spiritual needs of patients in Convalescent Hospitals. We are not in competition with any other agency.
Q. Since the HEARTWARMER Visitors are volunteer, why should there be expenses?
A. To support the necessary full-time administrative staff, including
Chaplaincies,
office expenses, car mileage, telephone, printing, postage, etc.
Q. Where does the money come from?
A. From individuals, business firms, service clubs, auxiliary churches,
foundations, etc. A detailed budget breakdown available from agency upon request.
